AI-powered editing tools can quickly analyse large amounts of writing, identifying errors and suggesting replacements relatively quickly. This capability can be helpful because it speeds up the editing process and facilitates faster turnaround times. Combined, AI can help editors identify surface errors, allowing the editor to focus on more detailed, subjective errors and style issues.

However, using AI for editing and proofreading has several limitations. AI-based proofreading software simply cannot replace human judgment and expertise. The software will likely not catch subtle nuances, context, or meaning in your texts, and may sometimes suggest inappropriate or inaccurate content, resulting in introducing errors rather than rectifying them. Whilst capable of catching detectable errors, it’s important to note that proofreading software is not proofreading expertise.
